I know eating vegetables is good for you, and it weighs down on my conscience when I don't eat enough veggies. What do I do? Get yam rolls, avocado rolls, and seaweed salad from Bay Sushi! Their wonderfully seasoned sushi rice is what motivates me to eat my veggies...two yam rolls and an avocado rolls plus seaweed salad and miso soup for dinner, twice a week, and I can keep my conscience clearer about eating veggies.
MoreIn addition to the fantastic food at Bay Sushi, the owners are just great neighbors who feed us healthy food, so thank you, love you guys!
MoreWhen I first started coming to Bay Sushi, I thought this was just another small place like any other in the lower mainland, and was I wrong. The chef here is REALLY skilled, which makes the food (the rice seasoning, cut of the fish, etc) all very special. Connoisseurs can tell the difference, and although I am not bragging, I am one...
MoreWe ordered enough food for 2 adults and 2 toddlers but we were unceremoniously told to leave because our order wasnβt big enough. I understand they have a minimum spend policy but there are ways, friendly ways to communicate this information, thereβs no need to be rude and angry at us. Weβre a nice family trying to enjoy a nice meal out, not raucous hooligans. Also should minimum spend apply to babies?.... especially when the restaurant is empty?Bad customer service
MoreLovely family sushi restaurant. The owners are super friendly and nice. The sushi is excellent and the prices are sooooo good. Yes. The place seems dated, but that fits.
MoreI love the Korean don (fish pieces, egg, and assorted vegetables on plain white rice topped with Korean style hot sauce). My family is Korean so I've tasted a variety of Korean style hot sauces in my life time, and honestly Bay Sushi's spicy sauce is the BEST. The fish and veggies are fresh, but it's the sauce that really makes the difference and they have the magic recipe.
MoreI always order the Combo A and really liked the mix of freshly made rolls and sushi. The owners are really professional and complete the orders very efficiently from their cute open kitchen. As a regular customer for a number of years, I've grown very fond of Bay Sushi and make sure to drop by here a few times a month, even if I am not catching a ferry in Horseshoe Bay. For vegetarians I'd recommend the Bay Roll, it's a unique roll made up of seven kinds of veggies!
MoreSo, I was leading a tour of Horseshoe Bay for my aunt and uncle from the east coast, and naturally being hungry after a nice walkabout, we dropped in for sushi. Atmosphere is welcoming and the owners are professional. We ordered Combos A, B, and F(veggie) and were hooked. We ordered more rolls because my uncle loved the rice seasoning...Itβs awesome how you can just walk around and randomly discover a really neat place, we definitely need to explore more for hidden gems because they are there, just gotta look for them.
MoreMy friend and I share a Korean don (plain white rice mixed with fish and veggies plus delicious Korean hot sauce) and two avocado rolls. It's really healthy and tasty too. I think we drop by once every two weeks, it's great.
Morelucky to try the food here, folded inconspicuously at the bay. Family here are the definitive sushi-masters - been doing it for over 20 years, for them sushi is an art. I had never tasted a better chirashi bowl in my life. The yin and yang of succulent sashimi, fresh veggies, and perfect rice had me in awe. Unagi, tuna toro, and salmon I recommend as well
MoreThis is AMAZING! reasonably priced, exceptionally served and prepared, in a quaint and intimate setting. Best sushi I've had in months!
MoreBay Sushi rules! My family's been regular customers since I was in middle school, and now that I have children of my own I still come here a couple of times a month to get our fix of the best sushi in West Van hands down. Everyone, including me, says their sushi rice is really special, not too sweet, not too sour. If fish is not your thing, then get some avocado and yam rolls, they'll keep you healthy!
MoreHave you tried their Korean don? It's sliced vegetables and fish pieces on plain rice topped with Korean style hot sauce. It's the best Korean don I've ever had in the Lower Mainland, period. Chew, eat slowly, taste the food, and enjoy. The wonderful folks at Bay Sushi only use wild sockeye salmon, which is so much healthier than farmed salmon.
MoreNothing special. More rice than anything else in their rolls & cones. Not good value & stale air quality inside restaurant.
MoreNot friendly at all. Seemed like they were doing us a favor just to take our order.
MoreNever judge a book by its cover! Bay Sushi's unassuming, simple interior and exterior hide sushi and rolls the kind of which you can only get from master craftsmen. Well, it's not a secret anymore for regulars, but if you are passing by you may not know the degree to which the chef dedicates himself to maintaining quality and freshness of ingredients. The rice seasoning and other sauces are of very mild, moderate nature.
MoreGreat sushi, reasonably priced, quick service. Better to go than sitting in as it is very small.
MoreI really like their vegetarian options (the fish is good too but I'm vegetarian). I always order two cucumber rolls, one avocado roll, and a yam roll plus miso soup. That's my dinner. Their rice is so nicely seasoned!
MoreNice little sushi restaurant conveniently placed next to the terminal. I'd give it 5 stars but the dynamite rolls are missing a key ingredient: avocado.
More$25 for 4 salmon & 4 tuna sashimi plus 2 small rolls Unagi was really dry & nothing so dynamite about dynamite roll. Really friendly couple running the place but I doubt I'd come back here. I feel I was gouged because these restaurants know you are waiting for a ferry so can't walk much beyond the harbour.
MoreThe ingredients are always fresh and the food is tasty and well-presented. The combos are great. The restaurant is located in Horseshoe Bay, not to be confused with a place elsewhere in the city. I know that Bay Sushi is the go-to-place for people living in Horseshoe Bay, Caulfield, etc.
MoreThis restaurant is professionally managed with a very clean open kitchen and efficient service. I tried all the Combos over a number of days (A, B, C) and liked all of them; it's a fifteen minute drive to Horseshoe Bay from where I live and I'd invest that time just to pick up from here!
MoreThe salmon roll is simply awesome, expertly crafted with wild sockeye salmon. I also order two cucumber rolls and a yam roll to meet my self-imposed requirement for daily vegetable consumption, for a grand total of four rolls per order. Taste and quality have been consistently good for the last few years.
MoreI ordered salmon maki, spicy tuna maki, and bc roll. Ingredients were quality, but the rolls were tiny!! They also didnβt come with anything else in the roll except for the salmon, tuna and salmon skin. The spicy on the tiny was just a drop or sriracha type sauce. Friendly people and happy to support a local business, but it doesnβt quite compare to other sushi places Iβve tried for a similar price
MoreTheir ingredients are of a higher quality than most other places. For example, the folks at Bay Sushi only use wild sock-eye salmon. Atlantic salmon is not good for your health due to questionable farming methods, so I only get salmon sushi and rolls from here. I also like to go vegetarian sometimes, in which case I order Combo F or a couple of kappa maki and avocado rolls. Their rice is mildly sweet, which distinguishes them from other places where the rice is either too sweet or sour. Chew slowly, enjoy the food, and you won't overeat, which means you'll lose weight and get healthier too!
MoreI chose the all vegetarian option - 2 avocado rolls, 2 yam rolls, and a kappa roll plus miso soup. I am trying to control my cholesterol level and this was a good choice. I think the rolls are fresh and well-made. The miso soup is savory without being salty. All in all I enjoyed it.
MoreFresh and made to order. I've been coming here since they opened and it never disappoints. It's my favourite hidden gem when waiting for a ferry π±π£
MoreA lovely couple runs this place. Small inside but we got lucky and got seating both times we went. Fresh fish, fantastic rice. We liked it so much we came back the next day for more.
MoreFood was delicious, staff are very friendly. Didn't expect much but it was a very nice small little restaurant. I would definitely go back. Seaweed salad was delicous!
MoreThe food at Bay Sushi is fresh, authentic real Japanese food. I used to buy refrigerated sushi at big chain stores, but no more. The texture and special seasoning of the sushi rice make a big difference here. I rotate among the combos A B C F and drop by at least once a week. Bay sushi menu items are so much healthier than greasy food at fast food joints, and it is good value for the top notch quality and consistent freshness. Conveniently for me I live nearby so itβs a brisk walk away.
MoreAs a lot of people in the reviews have been saying, Bay Sushi has truly awesome sushi rice seasoning. In addition to freshly and expertly cut fish, what really sets apart great sushi is the rice seasoning and the texture of the rice itself. The chef - who is a good neighbor - is a master craftsman making truly authentic sushi!
MoreGreat fresh fish and really tasty sushi rice. The owners are super friendly. We ate here both nights that we stayed in the Horseshoe Bay area because it was so good!
MoreDelicious, fresh, original, and healthy sushi. The place is run by really kind people.
MoreThe sushi here is equivalent in execution as much more expensive restaurants. Probably the best sushi for it's price in west van
MoreI go to this simple restaurant every time Iβm at Horsehoe Bay and love it. The sashimi and rolls are fresh. Service is authentic.
MoreWorst customer service i have ever experienced. Completely rude and ignorant woman, who seemed to be the owner. How can you be in the restaurant business when you are so unwelcoming? Sayonara.
MoreAs a vegetarian, I order the veggie combos or any of the vegetarian rolls available. As many have been pointing out in the reviews, I come here for exquisite rice seasoning. I have been to MANY sushi places, and by far Bay Sushi's rice seasoning has the "softest" or "mildest" taste...their rice just melts in your mouth without any harshness in taste...you have to try it, because words can do only so much to convince people of how something tastes...
MoreGreat place!
Wonderful fresh sushi and perfect for takeout for the ferry ride (Ferry food is not good). Try the spicy tuna sashimi.
MoreDo not eat here!! I got food poisoning and I was throwing up all night. And the people there were quite rude as well. Did not use sanitary precautions while making sushi. They should be wearing gloves especially with the Corona Virus.
MoreNice little Japanese run hole in the wall. Tastes great. Reasonable price.
I am taking the time to write my very first review because I feel that Bay Sushi produces high quality haute cuisine that needs more publicity. The sushi rice here has a very mildly sweet, elegant taste that does not invade your taste buds as do some other sushi places in Metro Vancouver. I've been to expensive hotels and restaurants where the sushi simply does not measure up to the quality here. And I am a very picky eater. I recommend the vegetarian combo plus inari (sushi wrapped in sweet tofu paper).
MoreVery tasty, "well-crafted" sushi in the beautiful village of Horseshoe Bay. My go to menu selection is one of the Combos A/B/C. The owners are professional, very kind to me and have been in business for a long time. I like to order a Kirin beer too whenever I drop by once a weeks or so. Thanks for the great experience.
MoreI really like Bay Sushi located in the wonderful village of Horseshoe Bay. I come here for their traditionally and expertly crafted sushi and roll options as I am not a fan of "fusion" sushi made with tons of mayonnaise and other assorted (unhealthy) toppings often served at other places. I like sushi and rolls the way multi-generation, family-run restaurants serve them in Japan, and Bay Sushi is unique in the metro Vancouver area in their dedication to keeping to tradition. The owners are also good friends, thank you for being great neighbors. - Yours truly, Margot S.
MoreI stick to the the Combos (A, B or C). Combo F is vegetarian, it's good too if you want a really healthy option. The owners have been in business for a long time and are really professional in everything they do. I think I drop by here a few times a month for sushi and don't really go anywhere else unless I have to...
MoreExcellent quality, fairly priced, very efficient service. We received our order quickly and had plenty of time to eat while waiting for our ferry.
MoreFresh, good sized portions. And amazing service.
Small walk-in restaurant with good tea, beer and food!!
The employees were very nice and friendly. They prepared my meal very quickly and it tasted pretty good. The prices were very reasonable. Nice little place to have lunch before getting on the ferry.
